It's been a while since I updated the blog, but here's something I completed recently. For the past few years I've been a writer on Konami's Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG website(s), providing gameplay tips and tournament coverage to the game's many players. A while back I was asked by Konami Europe to design an exclusive Game Mat for YCS Sheffield, and here it is.
For those unfamiliar with the game, a Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series (YCS) is a top level event where several hundred people compete over 2 days to become the next champion (and receive big prizes along with it). These events take place in cities all over the world, from Paris to Milan and Los Angeles to Lima.
YCS Sheffield is a little different though, as it's the first time that Sealed Play will be in the spotlight; instead of bringing a constructed Deck with you, you build one out of cards you get at the venue, so everyone's on a level playing field. To celebrate the occasion Konami's giving every participant an exclusive Game Mat, which you can see above.
I was going to be at the event anyway for tournament coverage but seeing a giant hall full of players using something I designed will be something I'm really excited to see, and hopefully it'll lead to more design work in the future. Many thanks once again to Konami Europe for giving me the opportunity!

And what a fine job you did here, sir.
Why was it breaker I know they made you use it cause you can do more cool things with more fun monsters
Thanks for the comments.
Aro, as you've probably guessed, custom mats can do whatever they want, whereas with official mats you can't alter the card artwork or shower it in lens flares :)
The mat is yours? Wow, I didn't realize.
It IS one of the better mat designs I've seen in the past year, so be proud of it.
I kind of wish there was another way to get this mat... definitely one of the better official designs. It would be awesome if they used this mat for a YCS in America.
Maju: Thanks for the kind words. :)
Cyber: It was only handed out at the YCS, so there's only about 600 copies in circulation. You may find some on eBay and the likes but given that it's dated and everything, it won't be re-released if/when the US has a sealed YCS. Who knows though, maybe the US team will put together an exclusive mat for that event too?
